Introduction

Oopsie Jumpsie: Multiplayer is a fast, competitive social runner built for Meta Horizon Worlds, designed to get players jumping, dodging, and competing with friends within seconds.

Created as a mobile-first, portrait-mode experience, the game challenges players to survive as long as possible in a colourful, ever-changing world — racing side-by-side and comparing distance in real time. Each run is short, intense, and instantly replayable.

The project was developed as part of the Meta Horizon Creator Competition: Mobile Genre Showdown – Reloaded, where it won the Judges’ Choice Award. Beyond the competition, Oopsie Jumpsie served as a focused experiment: could a complete, polished multiplayer game be built entirely using Meta’s built-in GenAI tools — from environments to audio — without sacrificing coherence, performance, or fun?

The Challenge

Our goals for Oopsie Jumpsie were deliberately ambitious:

  • Create a multiplayer, portrait-mode 3D game optimised for mobile.
  • Achieve sub-3-second onboarding from load to gameplay.
  • Design a core loop that is instantly understandable, yet competitive.
  • Build a world that feels fresh every run, without frustrating players at higher speeds.
  • Use 100% GenAI-generated assets while maintaining a consistent visual and audio style.

On the technical side, we also needed to:

  • Ensure fair procedural layouts at increasing speeds.
  • Keep performance stable in a live multiplayer environment.
  • Design clean, readable UI and camera framing for vertical play.

Solution

We focused on a single, elegant loop — jump → dodge → survive → retry — and built every system around supporting that clarity and speed.

Core Gameplay & Systems

  • Procedural Fragment Spawning
    A custom fragment-based spawning system generates a new layout every run, ensuring variety while preserving fairness and readability at high speeds.
  • Multiplayer Racing Layer
    Players run side-by-side in real time, comparing distance live and competing for personal and global rankings.
  • Mobile-First Controls
    Intuitive tap and swipe input enables instant onboarding, with increasing speed adding mastery rather than complexity.

GenAI-Driven World Building

  • 100% GenAI Assets
    All 3D models, environments, textures, sound effects, and ambient audio were generated using Meta’s GenAI tools, including Mesh and Environment generation, Texture generation, Audio generation, and Creator Assistant.
  • Visual Cohesion
    Environment fragments were carefully blended and curated to ensure a unified aesthetic despite being fully AI-generated.

Camera, UI & Feedback

  • Portrait Camera System
    Built using the Camera API to maintain a clean, readable vertical view optimised for mobile screens.
  • Mobile-Optimised UI & Haptics
    Minimal UI, clear distance feedback, and satisfying haptic responses reinforce player actions without visual clutter.
